Critiquing Photography Challenge

I think this is my most successful image from the Critiquing Photography Challenge because the sunset landscape is very aesthetically appealing due to the colors involved. I like how this photo has a contrast of colors, as the bottom half is simply dull and lacks detail, whereas the top half shows vibrant and compelling colors that are visually appealing. The difference in lighting from the top and bottom half of the photo allow the sunset to pop even more since the lighting is focused on the sky. I also think the contrast of the trees allows the colors of the sunset to create back lighting, showing the silhouettes of the trees.
The most challenging aspect of this assignment was creating an image for the theoretical category. Due to the broadness of this category, as a lot of images can make a commentary about art, I had to be more creative in the photographs I was taking and also edit the photograph to make it more conceptual.
In the future, I am going to explore different areas on campus that I am not usually around, exposing myself to new landscapes and visuals where I can be more creative and take different photos of new things I see.

On another student's blog post, I commented, "Hi Andrew! I agree that this was your most successful image from this photo challenge because the image is very clear and detailed. When exploring the other photos you took, this image caught my eye immediately. You captured the flowers at a great angle, allowing the sunlight to reflect the vibrant colors in order to create a very aesthetically appealing photograph. The lighting and composition allowed you to achieve a great photo!"

Hi Alexandra! This is a beautiful image, and I love how the sunset colors contrast with the darker tones of the road and trees. The vanishing point created by the road draws the viewer’s eye into the scene, making the composition feel dynamic. I also appreciate how the warm and cool tones blend in the sky, creating a calming yet visually engaging effect. It would be interesting to see how cropping or adjusting the lighting might enhance the focus on the sky even more. Overall, this is a really striking and well-balanced photo!
Hi Alexandra. The image you found to be your most successful is very pleasing to view. I agree that the bright colors of the sunset are captivating and really draw the viewer in. I think there is a nice contrast between the bright sunset colors and the duller, darker colors of the street, trees and houses. In the future, I would like to see how the image would look if it were to be cropped in a different way, with less of the road showing to see what emotions and purpose that would give to the image in comparison to how it is now. However, I do like how the road provides a vanishing point to draw the viewer through…
Hi Alexandra! I am drawn to this image because it is aesthetically pleasing and the composition is interesting. The vanishing point draws your eyes in, while the colored sky in the top third of the photo also attracts attention. I like that you can see the cars driving away, further calling the vanishing point into focus. I also really like the stark contrast in brightness and color in the top and bottom of the photo, and think you could actually exaggerate that difference with some photo editing to make it pop more. Overall, a really lovely photo!
